I had a great time on Thursday afternoon recording an episode of my podcast in front of a live audience.
My first guest was Sonny Portacio, geocacher and Director of Technology for the Escondido Union High School District. Sonny has been doing a ton of work with geocaching lately. He’s created a wiki site for collecting […]

I had a great time presenting at NECC on Wednesday. I captured the audio (albeit in a low-quality version) and attached my Keynote slides as an enhanced podcast. I’m also linking to a pure audio MP3 version in case your computer can’t handle AAC-encoded media.
I posted the links for my talk previously, so please have […]

I gave a half-day workshop this morning on iPods, iTunes, and podcasting. We generated a pretty good list of ideas for uses of this technology in classrooms and schools:

Collect field notes during a science field trip
Living museum, researching characters
“Radio shows”
Creating audio guides for local museums
Teacher powerpoints
Early language learners, (rhyming, etc.)
Staff development
Screencasts
Language learners recording assessments
Discovery Education […]

Whew! Wednesday was crazy busy at NECC. I’m exhausted. If anyone reading this will be around the convention center late on Wednesday afternoon, stop by Room 31B from 5:00–6:00 for a live Savvy Technologist Podcast. One of my guests will be Jeff Utecht of The Thinking Stick blog. Jeff is teaching in Shanghai China these […]

Here are links to all of the sites I’ll be mentioning in my talk at NECC on Wednesday (and even some ones I probably won’t have time to mention). I’ll post more once I’m done.

My family and I arrived in San Diego last night, and I’m busily putting the final touches on my presentations for this year’s NECC. If you’re interested in seeing a session that I’ll be doing, check out one of the following:

Introducing the Read/Write Web: Challenges, Opportunities, and Implications, July 5, 2:00–3:00, Room 6D
Learning To Go: […]

Julie Lindsay just posted on her blog, the list of NECC attendees who have registered as official volunteer bloggers. Link to Lindsey’s blog for the list.

This list arrived an hour ago from the Web Marketing Manager at ISTE, Barbara Hewick. It is a list of volunteer bloggers and podcasters for the NECC06 conference in […]

I’m in Atlanta, Georgia for the Discovery Educator Southeast Regional Institute (tag: denri & denri06). I was able to visit some old friends and to make some new ones last night at a desert social. I’m sorry that I didn’t take any pictures of the food. There were some awesome chocolate brownies, a totally rich […]

If you had suggested to me, three years ago, that I would be blogging a conference, I would have said, “Wha…?” Yet, I think that the potentials of conferences that are wireless, with reflective participants blogging their notes and their insights about what they are learning ** IS HUGE **. The information, ideas, […]

Now, how could I have missed this wonderful blog created by a superintendent? I’m always on the lookout for good examples and I love this one! Her name is Dr. Joni Samples. She is superintendent of Glenn County in California. The name of her blog is EdSuccess. Her tagline reads “Stories of […]

I was just going through the ALA Annual conference web site this morning and discovered the paragraph below.  This could be a trend.  Better yet, this could be a movement.  OK, most of you don’t get the reference to Alice’s Restaurant, but it’s huge.
ALA
has contracted with the Morial Convention Center to provide wifi access

I’m way behind on this one, though just in time for NECC06.  I just ran into a March blog from the Cool Cat Teacher (Georgia educator, Vicki Davis) and it looks like great advice for educators learning to blog this summer.  This would make a fantastic Handout.

Ten habits of bloggers that win!

School’s out for most of us. Educators across the northern hemisphere are relaxing for the first time in months, looking forward to a month or a little more of R&R, sitting by the pool in sunglasses, or taking a vacation or a fact-finding tour of Paris, London, Tokyo, or some other exotic locale that […]
