Bloggers and Writing: The Persuasive Influence of the Internet
0 Comments Published by pzimmerm June 11th, 2006 in Blogging, Blogs, New Media, Politics, Educational Technology, Educational TechnologyAlthough news of these two blogging events have appeared separately, it is quite useful to make note of them again, together, as an important signal of the power of the internet, specifically of bloggers and writing in the cyberworld. There was wonderful news last week about Glenn Greenwald, which also represented yet another sign of the growing, persuasive influence of writers on the internet. On the same day of the announcement that Andrew Sullivan's daily social/political commentaries on his blog, The Daily Dish, had reached over 2,000,000 readers during May, it also was reported that Greenwald's book, How Would a Patriot Act, had just made the New York Times' Best-Seller List. In addition, his book had climbed into the Top-100 of all books then being sold by Amazon.com. Greenwald is a writer who has reached a readership mainly through his blog, Unclaimed Territory.
(Almost) All Blogging Questions Answered
0 Comments Published by Ben May 17th, 2006 in Blogs, Educational Technology, Educational TechnologyAfter my lackluster hands-on session two weeks ago in Holland about blogging (I really felt unprepared and not as helpful as I could have been), I was happy to find “Your Guide to Blogging” yesterday on the PBS Mediashift blog. Not only did it answer the questions I couldn’t during the session, but it’s a […]
Blogging made relevant for Non-Bloggers
0 Comments Published by Ben April 28th, 2006 in Technology, Blogs, Educational Technology, Educational Technology, Language ArtsAt the end of March I posted about the continued, and in some cases increased, need for supervision of students using the Internet in the classroom. Many schools have been blocking blogs, wikis, and other social sites in an attempt to eliminate the need for supervision. Rather than embrace the new technologies they have “washed […]
Clearing Away the Dust
0 Comments Published by Ben February 25th, 2006 in Blogs, Educational Technology, Educational Technology, WebsitesI haven’t posted much this week, as I’ve been working intently on getting the new site design ready for the MACUL conference in two weeks. I’m not sure why I’m so nervous about it, but I just had a dream that I was late and unprepared for my presentation. My parents had to go and […]
Don’t Adjust Your Set….
0 Comments Published by Ben February 20th, 2006 in Technology, Blogs, Educational Technology, Educational Technology, WebsitesYou’re not experiencing technical difficulties, but it may appear that way throughout the week. If you’re a regular reader or a newcomer to the site, you’ll notice that at times this week there may be changes to the layout with the possibility of several errors and images misplaced. I’ll be tweaking and trying to create […]

If the photo-sharing site Flickr is any indication, the world of digital photographers is dominated by cat people.
Dog owners would probably object. But because of Flickr’s tagging system, which allows the photographers or other users to assign identifying tags to most photos on the service, we know that […]

When former Federal Communications Commission chairman Michael K. Powell watched television coverage of the London bombings last week, he noticed that most of the significant pictures didn’t originate from professional photographers employed by news agencies. They came from witnesses at the scene using cell phones and digital […]
