Students in my elementary blogging group compiled questions to ask Mr. Fisher’s class. I love the questions. I thought it might be fun to post them here and if any of you would like to tackle one of the questions yourselves it would be fun to compile those answers to share with students and others.

What […]

I’ve been thinking about Clarence’s post on technology or literacy. I understand completely what he is saying about technology not being kind as you work in a classroom to firmly focus on literacy and learning. Yet it can’t be technology or literacy. As Kevin says, overcoming tech hurdles can be a form of learning […]

This post is a follow-up and completion of a previous post on Julie Coiro’s session at TRLD on “professional development, educational leadership, and digital age thinking.”  Julie has a link to models of professional development here. You can explore online examples of each of these components:

If you haven’t seen this post, There’s something happening here!, by Lani of Possibilities Abound you need to. It tells a story, a story of learning that is so compelling that I wish classrooms around the world would take a look at and indeed see the possibilities. Darren Kuropatawa of A Difference is an […]

Head over to  Blogical  Minds to see this post about Educating our legislators!

In Julie Coiro’s session at TRLD on “professional development, educational leadership & digital age thinking” she pointed out that “the most successful PD models” engage and empower teachers to have a stronger voice in directing their own learning. Then she went on to say that effective PD models for integrating literacy & technology follow three […]

I miss blogging! I am knee-deep in a research piece on blogging with elementary students. I think it is going to produce some very interesting results but I never knew research required so much time! Universities seem to have the same plight as the K-12 schools. Everytime you need something to get the job done you’re told to write a…

If you haven’t seen Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach’s bouncing baby blogger announcement you’re missing out! I had the distinct pleasure of talking to this emerging group this past Monday. I have a strong feeling that some really good things are going to come out of this group. I talked about my experiences blogging with elementary students.  If […]

Julie Coiro’s session at TRLD on “Educational Leadership, Professional Development, & Digital-Age Thinking: A Vision for Change” began with this Anticipation Guide.pdf.
I obtained permssion from Julie to share this whole anticipation guide on my blog, as well as other items from her excellent sessions.
This is how this session began. We had our anticipation guides in […]

This is such a noteworthy post! Mark Ahlness writes about  SSR - “sustained silent reading” with a 2.0 twist.  He has his kids reading blogs. He has turned them loose on blogs - to read. Mark points out that he will probably not do this every day as there is still value in cuddling […]

I need help and I am hoping someone has a solution! All of a sudden my white text has changed to black. The body text is usually white and I didn’t change anything in the body text part of the theme(at least not knowingly). I have gone inside and made changes that I thought were […]

ASCD Brief points us to eSchool News. The International Society for Technology in Education has revised the guidelines for what it believes students should know about technology prior to graduation. They’re seeking feedback from educators on a draft version of the new guidelines.  Give them your input!

To continue the conversation on testing I just read this on ASCD Smart Brief which by the way is one of my favorites reads. You can subscribe here.
Education about more than test scores….
Hear! Hear! Xavier University adjunct professor Timothy Leonard says that under NLCB, curricula geared toward students from disadvantaged backgrounds are too focused […]
