Mandatory or Mistaken?
Published by Chronicle of Higher Education January 19th, 2006 in UncategorizedStudents at Ohio University’s College of Education were none too thrilled when three local bookstores told them they were required to buy a $120 computer program. And they may be even less pleased now: Campus officials have said that the software is mandatory only in a few classes, and that the bookstores erred in stating otherwise.
The software, called LiveText, helps colleges track the progress of students as they create portfolios of their work. Since education-school officials could use that information to aid in the university’s accreditation hearings, some students have suggested that Ohio should foot the bill. (The Athens News)
