Majority of Connecticut school boards support NCLB suit
Published by BoardBuzz: NSBA's daily weblog January 18th, 2006 in UncategorizedThe Hartford Courant reports that nearly two-thirds of Connecticut’s school boards have endorsed a lawsuit challenging NCLB, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said Tuesday.
The U.S. Department of Education moved in December to dismiss the lawsuit, contending that the state has no grounds to sue for additional money to pay for the reforms.Although many states have raised objections to portions of the federal law, Connecticut is the only state to challenge the law in court. In their motion for dismissal, U.S. officials said Connecticut has accepted more than $750 million since 2002 based on its pledge to comply with the law but now is seeking “to keep the funds while jettisoning the accompanying obligations.”
