Enticing healthy eating in schools

Middle school students in Brighton, Mich., love their new fresh fruit and veggie bar, paid for with a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant. At no cost to the students, the before-school fruit and veggie bar is only one component of the program. Free fruit and vegetables are also available at lunch time, and beginning this week, teachers will be able to order fruit baskets for their classrooms and after-school events, the Detroit News reports.
Here is a tale from Baltimore, about a teaching approach called Food for Life that contends students will warm up to healthful foods if they get a chance to cook and eat them in a lively, hands-on classroom setting, the Baltimore Sun reports. The program is funded by this foundation and corporate donations.
