In the January 1992 edition of HHMM, we reported on the seizure and recall of Sporicidin International’s sterilant and disinfectant products by a joint action of FDA, EPA, and, indirectly, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Sporicidin products have been recalled by a joint action of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). HHMM emphasizes that other glutaraldehyde-based cold sterilant products are still acceptable for use. An FDA spokesperson could not offer a reason why Sporicidin products failed the Association of Official Analytical Chemists test protocol for sterilants (see HHMM July 1990; 3[10]:1).
